About Me

What’s in a My Name?

JC are my real initials. Garren is my great-grandmother’s name. I took her name because she was an avid reader and a feminist that I wish I could’ve gotten to know better before she passed on to the Summerlands. Plus, her name is cool and easy to pronounce (unlike my maiden name which is super cool but not easy to pronounce). I hope Meme accepts my offering and approves of what I write in her name.

I am a:

  • lover of words
  • Native Texan
  • Pisces
  • Snake (for all you Chinese zodiac people)
  • theater and English teacher
  • very bad gardener
  • decent cook
  • avid traveler
  • certified minister (yes, through the internet)
  • wino
  • gamer-geek (paper & dice, of course)
  • cat lover
  • caffeine addict
  • writer

I will probably:

  • stay married to my wonderful husband for the rest of my life
  • adopt a child one day
  • have a child one day
  • replace this week’s favorite band next week
  • drink a bottle of bubbles with my sister on Wednesday while we solve the world’s problems. Or while we watch television. Both work for us.
  • keep writing even if I’m never published
  • keep teaching even after I retire
  • not kill every plant I try to grow
  • eventually move into a retirement community with Kat, where we will continue to drink wine, play games, bake cookies, and retell that story about Rob, Monte Carlo, and what happens when you walk the long way up the wrong cliff too close to curfew.
  • like you

My Five

You remember that episode on Friends where they each got five celebrities they can… yeah, that one. Here’s My Five, four in alphabetical order, with a Today’s Special that changes according to the mood of fate (from a list made by me). Life is random, and I choose to embrace it. And oddly enough, each member of the alpha list was born in a different decade. Not only am I whimsical, but I appear to lack severe agism.

  1. Anthony Bourdain
  2. Bradly Cooper
  3. Kyle Schmid (does a 7 year difference make me a cougar? I don’t care. He’s gorgeous.)
  4. D.B. Woodside

Today’s Special: Any of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters
